Today the wallflowers looked lovely, and were being admired by some Belgian fashion photographers shooting with the wall as a backdrop to their winter collection. They promised pictures when they arrive…

Looking west from Kemptown.
Taken in the period between establishment of the railway and the installation of the sheltered walk and shelter hall (now Concorde 2). I wonder what the large shrubs were. Chain pier in the distance.

Went to the exhibition of the HLF bid today down at Yellowave.
New sheds and visitor centre planned for the Volks railway, Brighton
Met the team, and really impressed by the plans – including enough solar power to run 2 trains entirely on renewable electricity! A habitat park is planned, and Building Green is hoping to be involved to help VERA and partners make this dream a reality.
We’re meeting on Marine Parade, at the top of the ramp up from Madeira Drive.

We’ll be weeding the beds, sowing some seeds and probably planting some cuttings of Japanese spindle.

Invader tile removed from Madeira Drive green wall
Has world famous French graffiti artist and urban tiler ‘Invader’ visited Brighton lately?
This artwork, at the bottom of the Madeira Drive green wall in Kemptown would certainly suggest so. Can anyone verify?

Green fingers needed to help do some maintenance at the Madeira Drive green wall!
On Sunday 29 March at 10am some of us are meeting at the top of the ramp on Marine Parade, eastern end of the green wall near Duke’s Mound. The beds at the foot of the green wall need some maintenance – brambles and thistles and stuff. We will also be taking cuttings to plant in gaps in the wall, and may be sowing some wildflower seed.

Bring thick gloves, secateurs, loppers etc, coffee and cake! We can have a walk and natter about the site’s history as well if you like.
